GAMIFIED E-LEARNING FINDINGS FROM KPMG

Branded Games, July 16, 2018

Engaging staff in learning programs is a constant challenge. Even as technology elevates the stimulation baseline, so too does it unlock new opportunities for engaging learning experiences. As a large, global organization, KPMG member firms face a constant challenge ensuring that their employees understand the full range of capabilities of KPMG. In response, KPMG created a gamified app to help employees learn about the global network of member firms’ capabilities in an engaging way.

With insights from KPMG leaders on areas such as learning and development, technology, customer and people and change, the paper covers a broad range of topics, centered on engaging people in a cost effective manner.

Playing for Success aims to:

  • Demonstrate that the appropriate application of game elements to learning experiences can improve engagement, encourage staff and help achieve organizational objectives.
  • Prompt thinking about whether applying game elements could improve existing and future efforts to engage staff or customers.

In most organizations, employees expect required training to be an arduous and underwhelming experience. This results in an uninspired learning culture. Conversely, game-based learning presents the opportunity to reinvigorate learner interest, tap into learners’ competitive inclinations, and drive higher learning engagement and satisfaction. Gamification is not a ‘one size fits all’ approach, nor will it achieve all types of learning objectives. However, games are a great way to introduce new learning concepts, augment live training experiences and reinforce key concepts over time
